Concert Choir

Listening Assignments | Concert Calendar

Concert Choir is an SAB Choral Ensemble made up of students grade nine through grade twelve. The Concert Choir performs three major concerts a year as well as at various community events. The Concert Choir performs music literature for developing choirs with a focus on developing proper vocal technique and musicanship skills.

Student Expectations:

  • 1.  Students are expected to attend all concerts and performances as stated in the schedule
    • Excuse notes are requred one week in advance of expected absence. Please see Music Handbook for other specific attendance policies.
    • When there are attendance conflicts:
      • Sports Game over Band rehearsal
      • Chorus Concert over Sports Practice
      • Sports Game and Concert, try to make both or see Mr. Donovan ASAP

  • 2.  Students will be responsible for placing all music in a binder provided for them, as it will be used for performances during the year.

  • 3.  Students will always be on time for rehearsal and come ready to rehearse, this includes but is not limited to:
    • Students must spend time out of class preparing music.
    • Students bringing all music to class and keeping music in excellent condition, as it is property of Duxbury High School. If materials are damaged or lost, students could be financially responsible.
    • Students will always put forth all of their effort.
    • Supporting other sections while they are working.
    • Students will do not talk while the conductor is speaking
    • In sectionals, students will work with their section leader.
    • Have an open mind and attitude towards all music, new, old and unfamiliar.

  • 4.  The voice is an instrument and it is strongly recommended that all students in Chamber Singers take voice lessons. The value of taking private lessons is that it provides one on one instruction in vocal technique and access to quality vocal literature. These two elements are vital and can not be adequately addressed within a choral rehearsal.

Concert Dress:

All men will wear black tuxedos with a matching tie, shoes, and socks. All women will wear a long black dress or pants with appropriate sleeved blouse, black nylons and closed toed shoes. (Information about obtaining tuxes will be provided early in the school year, and financial assistance is available through Music Promoters.)
